Dr. Rachel M Erickson, ND
Dr. Erickson graduated from Bastyr University in 2008 with her doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine. She is licensed and practices as a primary care physician in the state of Washington. She now works at Alder Grove Healing Arts Center in Wallingford. Dr. Erickson completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Washington with a BS in Botany in 2003, and has a passion for biochemistry and human physiology.
Dr. Erickson’s mission is to be your health care advocate, help you navigate the medical world, educate you on how the body works and why it’s out of balance, and provide you with resources to treat all your health conditions. She helps you create your healthcare team, researches treatment options both conventional and alternative approaches, so that you can make the most informed decision on how to find optimal balance. When asked what she specializes in, Dr. Erickson says “My speciality is being your go-to person for any ailment, and to help you understand all the resources, botanicals and medicine, practitioners and services you need to find health again.”
“The amazing thing about medicine is that it’s not just the physiology and biology that matters; that isn’t the totality of your health. The heart and soul of every patient I see tells me as much about their ailments and struggles as the answers hidden in their bodies. I tell every new patient who walks in my door that we are on a road to optimal health. It is not a pill, it’s not a quick fix, and I work as a detective, guide and ally alongside each of you to discover what is blocking your way to the fullest chance at healing and balance. It’s about bringing science to the art of healing. Above all else, I see myself as a long term advocate, here to guide and inspire people to live a healthier and more heartful life.”
Dr. Lauren Blackham, ND
Dr. Blackham’s journey in medicine started in childhood with both of her parents working in the medical field; she always knew growing up that she wanted to be a doctor. Studying pre-med along with Gender and Women’s Studies at UC Berkeley as an undergraduate opened her eyes to the ways gender, sexuality, race, and class shape our lives including our health. After graduating, she worked at Planned Parenthood as a reproductive health specialist where she counseled patients on birth control, sexually transmitted infections, and pregnancy options, and assisted during procedures. At the time she was considering going into conventional medicine, but realized there was something more she was seeking. She found Iyengar Yoga and dove deep into this method of investigating and healing the body, mind, and spirit. Finally, she found her way to naturopathic medicine which beautifully blends her interests in evidence-based Western medicine with the realm of the healing arts and ancient wisdom.
Dr. Blackham completed her naturopathic medicine degree at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR and completed a two-year residency at One Sky Family Medicine in Seattle, WA. She has a special interest in treating digestive and pelvic floor complaints, which often go hand in hand. She is trained in pelvic floor physical therapy and the Arvigo Techniques of Mayan Abdominal Therapy which are bodywork modalities useful for treating conditions such as urinary incontinence, chronic pelvic pain, infertility, recovery from Cesarean section, irritable bowel syndrome, and chronic constipation. Other tools she often uses for pelvic floor and digestive complaints include hormone and stool testing, food allergy testing, SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) testing, and yoga. She is also skilled in performing pap smears, pelvic exams, and IUD insertions, and addressing common general complaints.
Dr. Blackham (she/her) identifies as cis-female, mixed race (Filipina and white), and queer. She understands that oppression and medical bias take their toll on individuals’ and communities’ health. She strives to provide a welcoming environment for her clients regardless of their sexuality, race, gender, size, or physical ability.
